Background of occupational health checkups for workstays abroad
Health protection for employees includes:
- Medical check-ups (fitness for stays abroad)
- Preventive measures like vaccinations
- Provision of medical care in case of illness
In Germany, occupational health protection measures are regulated by law (ArbMedVV). Preventive measures have to be taken before sending employees abroad, especially to countries with high climatic stresses and strains and with infectious diseases threads.
Based on the guidelines in the law (ArbMedVV), the employers mutual insurance associations have formulated operation instructions for these protective measures – called Berufsgenossenschaftlicher Grundsatz G35. This instruction is compulsory for every company since its publication in 1980. Targeted examinations are done in order to contribute to counselling and to determine whether there are medical concerns about this stay abroad . A follow up medical examination is aimed to identify diseases at an early stage.
